Brocade and Dell have entered into a partnership to offer Dell customers computing, networking and storage products through Dell global sales organisation.

The two companies intend to develop an infrastructure and optimisation system enabled by virtualisation to allow customers deploy and manage data centre and also deliver integrated toolsets to manage application delivery and deployment as business services on compute, network and storage infrastructure.

This expanded partnership extends Dell’s existing Brocade storage networking offerings to provide a portfolio of Dell-branded Fibre Channel (FC) host bus adapters and converged network adapters, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) switches and Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE) switching products.

Dell already resells Fibre Channel blade switches for the Dell M1000e and PowerEdge blade servers as well as a line of Brocade fixed-configuration Fibre Channel switches as part of its SAN switch offerings. It will also resell the Brocade 8000 FCoE Switch and DCX Backbone, which enables data centre consolidation and network convergence.

Dell will also resell ethernet modular switching products based on Brocade NetIron MLX Series routers and BigIron RX Series switches to provide 10GbE and 1GbE port density and wire-speed performance designed to support data centre traffic including iSCSI virtualised applications and internet edge-to-aggregation layers routing.

It also includes application switching based on the Brocade ServerIron ADX Series switches to provide Layer 4 through 7 switching performance in modular application delivery controller platform.

Brad Anderson, senior vice president of Dell Enterprise Product Group, said: “We are extending our Brocade relationship beyond storage into the broader data centre, offering customers compelling choices and flexibility for compute, networking and storage. Both companies share a vision that next-generation, virtualised data centres should be open and standards-based.”
