Currently, private sector players Airtel and Vodafone are offering the iPhone to its customers in India. If the deals are successful, BSNL will be the third operator to offer the iPhone 3G in India and it will become the first company to offer 3G services on the iPhone.

According to reports, the BlackBerry handset is likely to be available for BSNL customers by the end of 2008. BSNL has already received 3G network radio frequencies and plans to launch high-end services on its 3G network in early 2009.

The Economic Times has quoted Kuldeep Goyal, chairman and managing director of BSNL, said: We are in talks with Apple to launch the iPhone 3G on our network since we will be the first ones to launch the 3G services here. We are also awaiting the launch of BlackBerry on our network by end of this year. By then the security issues surrounding it will be hopefully resolved.
