Blue Coat claims that BT has selected ProxySG appliances after assessing various secure web gateway products that combine security and control. Blue Coat integrates granular levels of security and control in its appliances, so that restrictions on internet access can be imposed based on the user and the nature of the site, content or application. This means that certain employees or groups can access blocked sites such as MySpace and Facebook.
Gordon Yule, network security manager for BT, said: “The Blue Coat solution enables us to simultaneously protect our network, create and enforce policy. BT is committed to maximizing employees’ access to internet content and web applications to enhance their productivity, but we need to balance this with controls to reduce the risk of infections or loss of data.”
According to Blue Coat, BT also plans to utilize ProxySG appliances to accelerate important business applications across its WAN, including a web-based HR solution.
