AtMail, a provider of Linux-based email management appliances and software, has launched AtMail 6.0, a new email system that reportedly combines the benefits of Webmail with the control and security of in-house email. It provides a single user interface for use internally or remotely via the web.

The company claims that the new version combines the benefits of cloud-based computing with the security and control and provides an alternative to Microsoft Exchange and other Webmail systems.

According to the company, the new version provides end-users with a single interface, conversation view of email messages, three-pane email interface to provide one-shot view of messages, threads and supporting data, HTML editing, and integrated address and calendaring that includes Vcard support, photo thumbnails, contact groups and live search.

The company said that it is built with AJAX on a Zend framework and has SQL and LDAP support, a Webadmin system for mail-server maintenance and user control panel for remote add/delete of accounts.

Ben Duncan, founder and CEO of AtMail, said: “Email is the lifeblood of how organisations communicate, and AtMail 6.0 takes aim at leveraging the benefits inherent in both on-premise and Web 2.0 email systems for end-users and IT managers alike.”
