Akamai Technologies has launched the new managed internet service for optimising delivery of virtualised applications and desktops.
Akamai said that, leveraging core technology from its IP Application Accelerator, the new targeted offering is designed to help enterprises reach inherent with the internet to deliver applications over virtual desktop infrastructure products offered by companies such as Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware.
Featuring customised integrations through professional services specific to virtual desktops, the company claims that the new targeted offering is focused on making it cost effective for enterprises to realise the intended return on investment of their virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
According to Akamai, its IP Application Accelerator offering targeted for VDI is intended to allow enterprises to optimise application user performance-anywhere, anytime. Its technology has been designed to transparently eliminate latency introduced by internet routing, packet loss, and constrained throughput, which are all critical to providing acceptable virtualised user experiences.
In addition, the performance improvements can be realised through several techniques including dynamic mapping, route optimisation, packet redundancy algorithms, and transport protocol optimisation.
Willie Tejada, VP of application and site acceleration at Akamai, said: We see the desktop virtualisation market poised for significant growth and believe that our unique managed services model allows us to work with enterprises on large, global deployments of their virtual desktop infrastructure.”
