Concurrent Computer Corp, Tinton Falls, New Jersey has finally shrunk its basic processor into CMOS and ECL gate arrays to create the Micro3200 family of real-time computer systems – six models of two lines, called the MicroThree and MicroFive. Concurrent claims 30% better price-performance than the DEC VAX 6300, with performance levels near those of the VAX 8800 at VAX 6300 prices – and the machines, under the OS/32 operating system, are claimed to have a better architecture than the VAX in real time work. The Micro3200 CPU board includes a four-stage pipeline, a full Series 3200 instruction set, integrated floating point and dual instruction and data caches. The machines offer multilevel interrupt with 15 microsecond response time and multiple register sets, plus hardware periodic scheduling instruction for fast cyclic scheduling. With the optional 40Mbyte-per-second Distributed Bus Link, multiple Micro3200s can work together. The MicroThrees models are $55,000; $70,000 and $100,000. MicroFives cost $80,000; $95,000; and $160,000, now.
