Computer Marketing Plc has launched Digital Communications Associates Inc’s IRMA 3 Convertible in the UK. Adding IRMA 3 to its family of IBM 3270 terminal emulation products, Computer Marketing claims it to be the first hardware product to support both IBM’s Micro Channel Architecture, MCA, and Personal Computer Architecture, PCA. IRMA 3 Convertible can be attached to either coaxial or twisted pair cabling; its adaptor card is fitted with balun circuitry to send and receive signals when twisted pair is used to connect terminals in a 3270 communications environment. Using custom communications processing chips, it also supports IBM emulation software for both Control Unit Terminals and Distributed Function Terminals. The product fits into a full length expansion slot and includes a cable adaptor card and AT bus and Micro Channel backplates; it also supports DCA’s line of terminal emulation software. Computer Marketing, of Camberley, Surrey, has exclusive UK distribution rights for the product, which was launched in the US last month.
