VMware Inc claims more than one million seats of its VMware View desktop virtualisation option have now been deployed across an estimated 7,000 customers.
It announced the numbers earlier this week as it revealed that Dell would bundle VMware View as an option on selected Latitude and OptiPlex client platforms and PowerEdge server platforms. This is something the companies claimed would help provide a foundation for client hypervisor-based virtualisation to a wider range of businesses.
The company added that its vCloud API is to submitted to the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF), the first time a key cloud interface has been put in for consideration by the body that develops management standards and initiatives for desktop systems.
It also introduced VMware Go, a system developed in association with Shavlik Technologies, as a web-based service that simplifies the process of virtualising applications by automating the installation and configuration of the VMware ESXi hypervisor.
It is being targeted at SMBs and organisations that are new to virtualisation.
VMware also said that AT&T, Savvis, Terremark and Verizon Business were among the first service providers that were planning to build new cloud services on the VMware platform, with purposes ranging from development and test through pay-as-you-go enterprise production systems.
