Spiceworks has released a new version of its free social network and IT management software for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), Spiceworks 6.
The new version features automated cloud services discovery, an optional remote device agent and a new social IT knowledge base.
Spiceworks 6 will help IT professionals discover what is happening in their environment and share their collective knowledge in a more social way. It also enables Spiceworks users to collaborate and simplify everything IT, the company claims.
According to Spiceworks, the automated cloud services discovery allows organisations to automatically detect more than 40 popular cloud services, helping IT professionals to gain insight into exactly which cloud services are in use across their network.
Remote device agent is an optional agent for better management of roaming devices which scans the device locally then connects to Spiceworks to provide important updates on its functioning and status.
The new release also gives IT pros access to more than 2,100 searchable "how to" articles posted by peers and vendors in the Spiceworks community.
IT pros can bookmark and customise community-sourced articles or create custom content they can share or keep private. Articles can also be tagged and displayed in the user portal to help minimise support calls.
AR Logix senior analyst Elgin Reigner said the Spiceworks social knowledge base includes community-driven, ‘how to’ information that’s invaluable for a company with a small IT staff.
"The ability to search, share, edit and tag information makes it easier to develop our own knowledge base from scratch. I can create custom articles that apply to my environment and set privacy controls to keep information private or share with my team," Reigner said.
