Red Hat’s latest instalment of open source development tools, Software Collections 2, is now available.
The collection includes web development tools, dynamic languages and databases which are delivered on a separate lifecycle from the company’s Enterprise Linux.
One of the main additions to the collection is the support for multiple languages, which means that developers will be able to select and standardise development on the language version which fits their needs.
It now includes the updates to Python 2.7, support for Python 3.3 and has added Python 3.4, while PHP 5.6 and Passenger 4.0 have also been included.
The company has aimed some enhancements at bridging the Linux container lifecycle with enterprise requirements by making Dockerfiles available for most of the collections including Perl, PHP, Python and Ruby.
Jim Totton, VP & GM, Platforms Business Unit, Red Hat, said: "As developer requirements grow across the application ecosystem, especially with the rise of cloud-native and composable applications, simply having access to the latest tools is not enough."
"These tools must also be supported so that the resulting applications can be deployed into production with confidence; Red Hat Software Collections provides this confidence through our enterprise-grade support while still enabling developers to pick and choose the tools that best fit their respective projects."
