Cupertino, California-based Zend is working with Oracle to produce Zend Core for Oracle, a supported free download designed to deliver integration between Oracle’s Database and Zend’s PHP web application development environment.

Scheduled for delivery in the third quarter, Zend Core for Oracle will be supported and updated by Zend and will also be compatible with the company’s existing Zend Platform management console and Zend Studio integrated development environment.

In advance of the release of Zend Core for Oracle, the database and enterprise application vendor has also launched the PHP Development center on its Oracle Technology Network website, providing technical resources for PHP developers, as well as the Oracle JDeveloper 10 PHP extension, which is designed to make it easier to develop, test and deploy PHP applications using JDeveloper.

Oracle joins IBM, Intel and SAP in giving its backing to Zend. In January the PHP specialist announced a round of strategic investment from Intel Capital and SAP Ventures.

In February IBM announced integration between Zend’s PHP programming environment and IBM’s Cloudscape database, open sourced last year as Project Derby. IBM and Zend also announced a native PHP driver for use with Cloudscape and IBM’s DB2 relational database.
