Infor has announced the launch of a new unit dedicated to designing and creating the next generation of big data apps.
Infor Dynamic Science Labs will bring together scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and economists to work across a variety of the software giant’s customers to help streamline and improve processes, company president Duncan Angove told attendees at the Inforum 2014 event in New Orleans today.
Infor Dynamic Science Labs will also work on infusing machine-learning and big data analytics into existing Infor applications, making them fast, smart, scalable and elegant.
Applications powered by the team look at going beyond collecting, reporting, and distributing information, anticipating problems and respond with solutions, uncover opportunities and recommend next steps, helping to answer an organisation’s most pressing questions.
The team is situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts, near the respected Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and actually consist of many former MIT students, headed up by software veteran Dr. Ziad Nejmeldeen.
Showing off the Labs’ work at Inforum, Nejmeldeen demonstrated how a nurse’s station might use new software to improve scheduling, thereby improving workloads and the standard of patient care.
"Harnessing big data today is a luxury, but it will soon be a business imperative for companies to remain competitive, and this transformation will happen quickly," Angove said.
"Infor recognizes that most companies are unable to afford the hardware and operations research personnel to take advantage of their data, so Infor Dynamic Science Labs builds machine-learning directly into our cloud applications and makes it available as part of customers’ subscriptions."
