IDrive, the online backup provider for PCs, Macs and Smart Phones has released public APIs for its Encrypted Versioned file System (EVS) platform.

EVS is a cloud storage platform with a set of public APIs providing enhanced security and encryption with built-in file versioning.

Using the APIs, developers can now create apps, eliminating upfront cost or licensing fees.

The developer needs to start up is an IDrive account while a 5GB account is available free of charge.

The APIs can be used to develop applications for backup, storage, disaster recovery, and any number of other reasons that are scalable and require minimal coding.

The online backup provider has created an App gallery in order to spotlight developers’ apps and the App gallery includes IDrive Connect, password storage vault, Microsoft Office plug-in and primadesk.

IDrive Connect will map the Google Docs to a Windows PC as if it were a regular folder while the password storage vault will store passwords, encrypt them with a private key, and then stores them in an IDrive account.

Microsoft Office Plug-in will back up Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word files, in real-time while primadesk will allow for searching, managing, and backing up of personal cloud data through a single interface.

EVS will save up to 30 versions of every file, enabling subscriber to restore files in case of ‘digital accidents’.
