IBM’s SoftLayer in collaboration with Cloudera has introduced a multi-server SoftLayer infrastructure system that is capable of running a Cloudera platform which can bring Hadoop to the cloud on demand.
Built on bare metal servers, the new on-demand systems are designed for Cloudera best practices through SoftLayer’s designer tool and is claimed to offer better capabilities and responsiveness by subscribing to Cloudera’s expert support.
The bare metal cloud servers are claimed to deliver better performance compared to virtual cloud servers.
Cloudera Business Development VP Tim Stevens said the company’s customers are looking for a application for managing vast amounts of varied data.
"With automated deployment of robust bare metal infrastructure to support the program, Cloudera’s joint solution with SoftLayer will push big data solutions into an even higher level of performance and reliability," Stevens said.
The new SoftLayer platform features bare metal cloud servers, which are deployed on demand and offered on a pay as you go basis with full remote access and control.
SoftLayer offers power and resiliency to the customers to support Cloudera, while providing flexibility and convenience of cloud infrastructure, the company added.
Cloudera offers tools for managing and analysing data with its Cloudera Standard and Cloudera Enterprise editions that include open-source Apache Hadoop software.
The Cloudera Standard edition combines CDH, which is its open source distribution of Apache Hadoop, with Cloudera Manager to offer cluster management capabilities including automated deployment, centralised administration, monitoring and diagnostic tools.
