Hortonworks has acquired Apache NiFi creator Onyara to automate and secure data flows for customers.

Hortonworks is introducing Hortonworks DataFlow powered by Apache NiFi, which is complementary to the Hortonworks data platform (HDP) and is expected to simplify and speed up the flow of data in motion into HDP for full fidelity analytics.

It will also provide customers with a comprehensive set of secure solutions to manage and find value in the increasing volume of streaming Internet of Anything (IoAT) data.

The new data paradigm, which includes data from machines, sensors, geo-location devices, social feeds, clickstreams, and server logs, is helping to accelerate the IoAT initiative.

According to Hortonworks, several IoAT applications need two way connections and security from the edge to the datacenter, increasing the need for security, data protection, governance that is expected to be provided by Hortonworks DataFlow powered by Apache NiFi.

Hortonworks CEO Rob Bearden said: "Hortonworks is focused on doing everything possible to enable our customers to transform their business through data-driven insights and actions.

"Onyara’s impressive work on security and simplicity in NiFi, combined with their commitment to open source makes for a perfect addition to our technology team."
