Dell has signed an agreement to acquire Make Technologies which develops software and provides a service to modernise traditional applications for modern, cloud-based systems.

Make Technologies claims its services reduces the cost, risk and time required to re-engineer applications.

The deal marks Dell’s third acquisition this week and fifth acquisition during 2013 as part of its diversification strategy to higher margin storage, software and services as it expands in higher-profit business services.

Earlier this week, Dell had revealed plan to acquire Wyse Technology and the modernisation services company Clerity Solutions.

The acquisition of Make Technologies, Clerity Solutions and existing Dell Services capabilities will enable the company to provide end-to-end applications from hardware through application migration services.

The automation of application and code migration capabilities of Make Technologies will help the IT departments to reduce both volume of code and associated operational costs.

The modernisation software and services provider will also provide customers with end-to-end transformation applications that will update portfolios of existing complex applications in less time and with higher precision.

Make Technologies will provide automated application and code migration tools to re-architect the old application software and data to a more modern architecture. It also reduces the cost of maintaining and managing legacy applications.

It also reduces the amount of custom code in old portfolios, while protecting the old information and business processes of the business functions it supports and also increases the business agility.

Following the acquisition, approximately 100 employees from Make Technologies will join the Dell Services team.

Dell Services president Steve Schuckenbrock said, "The addition of Make Technologies and Clerity Solutions to Dell Services positions us to lead in the fast-growing applications modernization space.

"We have the capabilities to help customers with all their modernization needs — from re-hosting and re-platforming to code re-engineering,"Schuckenbrock said.

"These offerings will enable Dell to support the thousands of commercial and public sector customers looking to migrate business-critical applications to open, standards-based architectures, including the cloud."
