A media company launched a cloud-based television platform in several New Mexico cities yesterday.

Comcast made the X1 Platform available in cities including Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and the product uses its cloud platform to make TV a more interactive experience, integrating programmes with social media features and apps and web content.

Chris Dunkeson, New Mexico VP and general manager for Comcast, said: "The X1 Platform is a huge leap forward for us and transforms traditional television viewing into an entirely new entertainment experience.

"X1 uses cloud-based technology to make the TV smarter, richer and more personalized, and allows us to deliver new features to our customers faster than ever."

Apps include ones for weather and sport, allowing the viewer to follow the scores of multiple games and check schedules or weather predictions while watching a show, as well as enabling them to use Facebook and other social network sites.

X1 will initially be available to new Xfinity Triple Play customers, but will become more widely available in the future, said the company.
