Amazon has acquired media rendering tech firm Thinkbox Software to bolster its cloud offerings.
Thinkbox announced in a brief blog post that it will be a part of Amazon Web Services (AWS). Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The company said: “At this point, it’s still business as usual for us. We’ll continue to provide you, our customers, with remarkable support whether you work on-prem, in the cloud or both.”
Thinkbox, founded in 2010, has provided creative tools and pipeline technology for small and large scale projects including the world’s largest feature films.
The company’s technology is being utilised in the CAD/CAM, Engineering and non-clinical Medical visualisation industries across the world to create, visualise and modify datasets as large as city streets and as small as microscopic cells.
Some of the Thinkbox’s offerings include a geometry caching system, a render management system, and image process automation.
The company’s customer list includes DK Studios, Burrows, Luma Pictures, Pixomondo, and Milk VFX.
It has offices in Winnipeg and Los Angeles, with 30 employees listed on LinkedIn.
The acquisition follows Amazon’s recent launch of a video conference call service, Chime, to compete with its rivals Cisco’s WebEx and Skype.
The transaction is the latest in a series of acquisitions made by AWS to extend the services it is offering to its users.
The company recently acquired Harvest.ai to add more security services and online meeting startup Biba Systems.
Last month, a report has revealed that AWS is bigger than Microsoft, Google & IBM combined.
The report from Canalys found that AWS brought in a third of all the cloud infrastructure sales globally in the closing quarter of 2016.
