A OneDrive for Business Android app has been released by Microsoft, further cementing the cloud first, mobile first business strategy ushered in under Nadella rule.
The app promises advanced security features, but rather strangely, users of Windows Phone mobile will actually have to wait a little longer for the new features. iOS users will also have to wait a few more months too.
The release was announced on the Microsoft Office blog, and Microsoft director of product management for Office 365 Reuben Krippner said: "Today we are excited to announce the first OneDrive for Business native experience on Android, part of a significant update to the existing personal OneDrive app. It’s our first app that brings together OneDrive and OneDrive for Business in a single experience.
"Now, people who use Android phones and tablets can seamlessly navigate between personal and work files within the same app.
Everything you save to your personal OneDrive remains separate and distinct from everything you save to your OneDrive for Business, but switching between the two is simply one tap away."
The app will massively boost the BYOD appeal of OneDrive and Office 365. "The lines between work and personal life have blurred. People use the same devices for work and personal purposes. Anywhere and anytime, people need to be able to easily access, share, edit and collaborate on the files that matter to them," said Krippner.
In July, Microsoft is doubled the amount of free storage that comes with its OneDrive accounts, up to 15GB from 7GB.
The move came as the battle for cloud storage heats up. Apple recently announced it would slash prices for its paid iCloud accounts, and last week Amazon announced that Fire users will get unlimited storage for photos taken on the phone.
