Chief information officers (CIO) will be the most prominent figure of a company’s board by 2020 as businesses’ digital transformation continues.
The revelation has been made today by Gartner at Informatica’s MDM and Data Governance Summit EMEA in London.
The research company said 2015 is the year of digital readiness. Today, CIOs are the third most important figure of the board, behind the chief digital officer (CDO) and the digital marketing officer (DMO).
At the bottom of today’s board are the chief data officer (CDTO) followed by the chief marketing officer (CMO).
In five years, CDOs will drop in importance and touch the bottom of the rank, with CIOs focused on revenue and strategy topping the board in terms of influence.
The CMO and the CDTO will be the next two most influential figures on the board respectively, with DMOs becoming the fourth most influential figure.
The rank remains unchanged through to 2025.
