Amazon is planning to hire 1,000 more people in the UK this year as the company claims it is business as usual following Britain’s decision to quit the European Union.
The new hires will be in addition to the 2,500 roles the online retailer had pledged to create earlier this year.
Amazon will now create 3,500 permanent full-time jobs in the UK in 2016, taking its total headcount to 15,500.
The jobs will support Amazon’s same day delivery service Prime Now, which was launched in 2015 in London before expanding to other cities throughout the UK.
The company will spread the new jobs across London, Cambridge, Edinburgh, and its warehouses in Manchester and Leicestershire.
Amazon UK head Doug Gurr said sales are in line with expectations and that it is business as usual as far as the company is concerned after the UK’s vote to exit the EU last month.
Gurr said: "We are creating thousands of new jobs to continue to deliver the experience our customers know and love during the festive season and beyond.
"We are hiring for all types of roles from software engineers, computer programmers and corporate managers in our R&D centres and head office, to operations managers, engineers, service technicians, HR roles and order fulfilment roles in our fulfilment centres."
Amazon recently unveiled that several small businesses and other Marketplace sellers will participate in the second annual Prime Day on 12 July.
In the UK, over 30% of total Prime Day deals on offer will be from Marketplace sellers, with about 80% more sellers participating in Prime Day compared to last year.
