Heartlab develops application software and integrates systems using industry-standard computer hardware. Its Encompass network provides cardiologists with access to imaging exam and report information and protection for critical patient data.
Agfa said it has been collaborating with Heartlab since December 2003 as part of a distribution agreement involving Agfa’s Impax for Cardiology. The aim of the joint venture is to integrate radiology and cardiology within hospitals in order to improve the flow of information and facilitate the management of the electronic patient record.
Both firms view the acquisition as an opportunity to expand their product portfolios.
Heartlab co-founder Robert Petrocelli is expected to manage Agfa’s Cardiology business unit after the purchase closes.
