Cambridge, UK-based Acorn Computers Plc has launched a new version of its Personal Computer Emulator which enables standard MS-DOS software to be run on its range of RISC OS computers. Version 1.6 of the Emulator runs from and returns to the RISC OS desktop environment, leaving current RISC OS applications and data intact. On machines with 2Mb memory or above, MS-DOS applications can be run concurrently with RISC OS applications, and MS-DOS files can be accessed directly from RISC OS, which enables them to be copied, deleted and dragged as if they were RISC OS files. Also, the Emulator provides full CD-ROM support. MS-DOS 3.3 is supplied with the Emulator and it comes with a mouse driver that enables the RISC OS mouse to act as if it were a Microsoft Bus mouse. The emulator can run in CGA, EGA or MDA graphics modes with partial VGA support for software that accesses the video hardware directly. Version 1.6 is available now at UKP100, and upgrades cost UKP30.
