The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a new chief information officer (CIO) after its highly regarded former CIO Joanna Smith recently took up a new role in Qatar.
Smith, who had been CIO at the Royal Brompton and Harefield trust for nearly five and a half years from January 2013 to the beginning of this month, has taken up her new CIO position at Sidra Medicine in Doha.
While at the Royal Brompton, Smith was responsible for the information and technology strategy and all related services at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals including imaging IT, clinical engineering, information governance and medical records.
She recently wrote on Linked In, “Well I’m en route to Heathrow now to catch my flight to Qatar and take up my new role as CIO at Sidra Medicine from Sunday. Very exciting! Sad to leave the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust – it’s an amazing place…”
A spokesperson at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust said, “We are sad to see Joanna go, and very grateful for her contribution to our digital information services over the past five years. We are in the process of recruiting a new CIO, and wish Joanna all the best in her new role.”
The Royal Brompton & Harefield is the UK’s largest specialist centre for the treatment of heart and lung disease for children and adults and is based at two sites, the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, and Harefield Hospital, near Uxbridge.
Smith’s new employer is based in Education City in Doha. Sidra Medicine is part of a large research and education environment. Education City also includes institutions such as Georgetown University, Carnegie Mellon University and HEC Paris as well as recently established national research centres such as the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute.
