Business process and document management firm Xerox has acquired Lateral Data, an e-discovery technology provider for $30m to expand its litigation services offerings.
Xerox Litigation Services managing director Randall Burrows said the acquisition of Lateral Data enable it to offer customers with an enhanced flexibility for meeting their e-discovery needs.
"Clients can choose a full service cloud-based approach, a do-it-yourself on premise solution or a customized combination of both," Burrows said.
Lateral Data’s software, Viewpoint simplifies e-discovery by enabling corporate legal departments and law firms to manage the entire e-discovery lifecycle using a single, in-house application.
The new e-discovery platform helps streamlines complex and time-consuming processes that require the purchase of disparate products and services from multiple vendors.
It also enables clients to simplify the collection, analysis, review and management of data across complex information sources all from a single platform.
Viewpoint offers advanced capabilities for filtering and processing data up to five times faster than any e-discovery software, giving clients the ability to conduct early case assessments and analyse relevant data sooner.
Lateral Data’s specific applications now available through Xerox include: OmniX, a SaaS document review tool; CategoriX for technology-assisted review; 24×365 data collection, processing and production services; strategic and technical consulting expertise to support the litigation lifecycle and Viewpoint.
Following the acquisition Lateral Data’s management team and all employees will remain with the company and the offices will continue to be located in Houston.
Xerox estimates the enterprise e-discovery market will be worth $1.6bn by 2013.
