According to LSI, the small form factor, ultra-low power 2.5-inch SAS drives housed within the DE5300 is expected to allow Fujitsu server customers faced with IT space constraints and ballooning energy costs to utilize nearly 50% less power than 3.5-inch drives, and enable nearly twice as many drives to reside in the same 2U of rack space.

In conjunction with LSI SAS host bus adapters, the DE5300 also provides a cost-effective system for businesses to transition to external storage for improved performance and scalability in a small physical footprint, added LSI.

The DE5300 is a 2U, 19-inch rack-mountable drive enclosure that supports up to 20 2.5-inch SAS drives for a maximum capacity of 2.9Tb in a single enclosure.

Steve Gardner, director of product marketing for Engenio storage group at LSI, said: The struggle to manage escalating data volumes will not stop, even in a slow-growth economy. As the industry leader in the SAS market segment, LSI is uniquely positioned to provide Fujitsu server customers with a solution that allows growing businesses to maximize storage density and power efficiency by combining the benefits of small form factor SAS drives with the flexibility to move beyond the scalability limitations of internal storage.
