China-based telecommunications equipment and network offerings provider ZTE said it will create ten international innovation centres in Europe and South America, by teaming up with several mainstream telecommunication operators in those regions.

At the same time, the company also plans to establish additional innovation centers in China in cooperation with major telecommunications operators.

The ten international innovation centres, which are planned in European countries such as Spain, the UK, France and Germany, will be established with the help of mainstream telecoms operators in those respective countries.

The centres will concentrate on location-specific cooperative operations including laboratories and operations and testing centres, and will focus on producing advanced technologies, products and business operations models aiming at the global telecommunication market.

The new future technologies developed will be applied to ZTE and its partners’ market and research and development strategies.

ZTE said the innovation centres will aim to better understand the requirements of major telecommunications operators by creating long-term, stable and effective communication channels with other global providers.

The company sees that the innovation centers will be a collective, proactive response to the change the telecommunications industry is currently undergoing, which is referred to as a "second transformation.", where services utilised by the industry are moving from being mostly voice-based to primarily data-based.
