Nokia has cancelled its plans to release its X7 smartphone on AT&T in the US.
The touchscreen phone was to launch exclusively this year a day before the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February with the US network provider as its mobile carrier, a source said.
The Finnish phone company may have backed out as it was not sure if the X7 was going to receive enough marketing and subsidies support from AT&T, another source said.
In the US, most mobile phone companies subsidise the cost of a smartphone to customers who sign up for a two-year contract.
However, Nokia is reportedly keen on launching the model in markets outside the US.
Without AT&T, the phone company reportedly has only two carrier network options in the US now.
In an e-mail statement, Nokia conveyed that the mobile phone company is working hard to regain leadership in the US market and is in active discussions with its operator partners on that strategy.
