It is hoped that users of the new application will load it onto their MySpace profile, reminding them which online shops they can donate to charity through. The application will enable users to donate money to a charity of their choice for free.

Retailers such as Amazon and eBay have signed up to the scheme and a proportion of the money spent by users goes directly to charities such as Save the Children, the British Red Cross and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The partnership has been launched in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Sweden and Denmark.

Jamie Kantrowitz, senior vice president, marketing, entertainment and content, MySpace International said: “Social action on the web is a thriving environment and MySpace is driving this on a global scale. We support our users to promote the causes they are passionate about, which is why we’ve partnered with aGoodCause.co.uk to give MySpacers a unique opportunity to take action and make a real difference.”

Mads Ellegaard, CEO at aGoodCause.co.uk, comments: “We’re very passionate about helping people raise money for charity. Partnering with MySpace is a fantastic opportunity to spread our work to a wider audience and to show people what can be achieved when millions of people take small actions.”

AGoodCause.co.uk was founded in 2008 by Ellegaard and Jonathan Low. It is based on the business model Engodsag.dk, which has been running since 2004.
