US online video viewing hit a record high with 161 million US internet users watched online video and 25 billion videos being viewed in August, according to comScore.
The internet traffic tracking firm said that Google sites continued to dominate the online video viewing, as the company surpassed 10 billion video views during the month, representing 40% of all videos viewed online. YouTube accounted for 99% of all videos viewed at the Google sites property.
Microsoft sites ranked a distant second with 547 million video views, accounting 2.2% of the total videos viewed online. Viacom Digital stood third with approximately 539 million and Hulu stood fourth with 488 million videos viewed online, comScore reported.
According to comScore, an average of 157 videos were watched per viewer during the month. Google sites attracted around 121.4 million viewers, with an average of 82 videos per viewer while Microsoft sites attracted 54.9 million viewers with an average of 10 videos per viewer. Yahoo sites attracted 51.6 million viewers with an average of 6.9 videos per viewer.
In addition, the firm also reported that 81.6% of the total US internet audience viewed online video with an average online visitor watching 9.7 hours of video during the month. The duration of the average online video was 3.7 minutes.
