It seems like the iPhone is going to be available in China finally, as there are talks between Apple and China Unicom to sign a deal that would see China Unicom selling Apple iPhones in the country for two years, reported Reuters, quoting a Merrill Lynch analyst.
Cynthia Meng, analyst at Merrill Lynch, said in a research note: Our industry checks reveal that Unicom and Apple have most likely reached a deal for an exclusive 2-plus year agreement. We expect iPhone products to be available in conjunction with the Unicom commercial scale 3G launch in Q4, starting on October 1.”
A Unicom spokeswoman said that the two sides were still in discussions. However, everything needs to be officially confirmed.
Earlier, the Apple iPhone was planned to debut in China in May and China Mobile was also in talks with Apple to sell iPhones in the country.
Apple has recently launched its new iPhone 3GS. The new model features a compass, 3 megapixel autofocus camera, hands-free voice control and GPS satellite navigation for location-based services.
