UK based hotel chain Travelodge has admitted that a hacker group had managed to obtain names and email addresses from its customer database.

The hotel chain came to know about the incident after many customers reported of receiving spam emails.

However, the company has stated in a letter issued to the customers that their credit card details were not compromised during the attack.

The company warned users of its online service to be careful from spam e-mails, and also had informed the Information Commissioner’s Office about the security breach.

A spam e-mail that some customers had received says, "Good day. Don’t miss exciting career opening. The company is seeking for self-motivated people in United Kingdom to help us spread out our activity in the UK area."

ICO statement on the data breach said that they will be making enquiries into the circumstances of the alleged breach of the Data Protection Act before deciding what action, if any, needs to be taken.

Asserting that safety and security of customers’ personal information as their top most priority, the company said it is currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into this issue.
