Spiceworks has released a new version of their desktop software suite, Spiceworks IT Desktop version 4.0. The company said the new version has enhancements that help small and midsize businesses to manage operations. They include the ability to visually map a company’s IT network and the addition of 3rd party management plug-ins from Microsoft, LiveOffice, Intel and Trend Micro.
The company has informed that it is currently integrating with Twitter, allowing activity updates, sent from within Spiceworks, to be published to Twitter. It also allows users to turn Windows events into social media alerts for problem-solving, and to share SMB IT trends.
Scott Abel, co-founder and CEO of Spiceworks, said: “With the collective knowledge of more than 700,000 IT professionals and most of the world’s top IT vendors, the Spiceworks IT Network has become the largest resource for SMB IT ‘how-to’ advice on the web. Combining this incredible knowledge resource with our new network mapping, social and 3rd party product features will help IT managers to better support the 22m employees who depend on them everyday.”
Spiceworks IT Desktop also includes features like network mapping that can create network diagrams that graphically display network elements, their relationships and bandwidth consumption.
The new offering also has management application plug-ins from technology vendors, including Microsoft, LiveOffice, Intel and Trend Micro. The Microsoft License Organizer allows users to track Microsoft licenses and to order additional licenses when needed.
The company said that users can control its Spiceworks help desk from any email-enabled device and can create new tickets, edit and update existing tickets and delete tickets from anywhere. It also added Twitter alerts that let users see how other IT companies have prioritised and managed various Windows Events.
