Security application provider, Sophos, has released the Mobile Control 3.0 version for Android-based devices that offers protection from malicious apps.

Sophos Mobile Control 3.0 can be offered as an on-premise application and or a service

The new version combines with Sophos Mobile Security 2.0 to offer protection for Android-based smartphones and tablets by scanning the apps and external media for malware, the company claims.

The malware detected will be centrally reported and mitigation action will then be taken in accordance to the company’s compliance settings.

Sophos product management vice president, John Shaw, said that with the increase in Android’s market share and threats targeting Android, it’s clear that anti-malware needs to be part of that policy.

"The latest version of Sophos Mobile Control makes it even simpler for IT teams to implement mobile device management, including built-in anti-malware, making secure BYOD possible for organizations of all sizes," Shaw said.

The version supports the Samsung SAFE devices, while including the web security, URL filtering capabilities and offers protection in BYOD environments.
