A Lulz Security (LulzSec) group hacker involved in an attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment has been awarded one year prison term in Los Angeles, US.

Cody Kretsinger was a member of LulzSec, a unit of the international hacking group Anonymous, found guilty of a string of attacks carried out in spring 2011 on government and private sector websites.

In addition, a federal judge has also ordered to perform 1,000 hours of community service upon his release from jail.

Kretsinger used the online signature ‘Recursion,’ and pleaded guilty in April 2012 to one count each of conspiracy and illegally harming of a protected computer.

Kretsinger accepted his role in gaining access to the Sony Pictures website and offered the discovered data to other members of LulzSec, which was then posted the group’s website and Twitter.

Another member of LulzSec, Raynaldo Rivera, has also been arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in August 2012 over the infamous hacking of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and is being prosecuted at the same court and a verdict is expected in May 2013.

In October 2012, Rivera agreed to pay a fine of $250,000 and face a maximum five year prison sentence.

In addition, four other members of the hacker group are currently on trial in the UK and three of them have pleaded guilty.
