Islington Council in London has turned to Becrypt’s Trusted Client platform to secure 3,000 workers when they access corporate networks remotely.

The deal is part of the Council’s move to increase flexible working opportunities for its employees, as well as enable them to work from any department. It will also help the Council’s slash £100m off its budget over the next four years.

Trusted Client is carried on a key fob and enables the Council’s entire workforce to work securely when accessing its network from home PCs. The platform aims to ensure that the Council’s data will not leak to the host PC and any malware on the worker’s home PC will not be transferred to the Council’s network.

Adrian Gorst, Head of ICT Service Delivery, Islington Council, said that Trusted Client is the only platform that has full CESG accreditation for the handling of data up to Impact Level 2, which includes Local Authority level data, which is one of the reasons Becrypt won the contract.

"Trusted Client was the knockout product of Infosec 2009, and it ticked a lot of boxes for us: being the only fully accredited CESG solution of its type, it enables us to fulfil our security obligations, while ensuring that we can accommodate our employee’s flexible working requirements," he said.

Bernard Parsons, CEO, Becrypt, said that enabling staff to work from home reduces the possibility of a business being disrupted if employees cannot make it to the office.

"Organisations need to be able to offer employees the opportunity to work remotely and ensure that they are protected from malware and viruses from home PCs accessing their networks. Greater flexibility also means that business continuity can be maintained in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as last year’s large snow fall preventing many workers from travelling to their places of work," he said.

"The implementation of Trusted Client for Islington Council marks a significant stride forwards in the council’s cost reduction strategy, which is driven centrally by the Government as they seek to reduce their real estate and associated costs, while also providing secure and productive flexible remote working," Parsons added.
