IBM has completed the acquisition of Trusteer, a provider of software that helps protect organisations against financial fraud and advanced security threats.
IBM entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Trusteer on 15 August 2013, and the acquisition will support IBM’s investments in cloud-delivered software and services.
IBM Security Systems general manager Brendan Hannigan said that the acquisition of Trusteer builds on over 40 years of the company’s contribution to the security space.
"Trusteer will extend our data security capabilities further into the cloud, mobile and endpoint security space," Hannigan added.
"This acquisition helps provide our clients with comprehensive network and endpoint anti-malware solutions."
IBM is also opening a new cybersecurity software lab in Israel that will combine over 200 Trusteer and IBM researchers and developers to work on mobile and application security, advanced threat protection, malware, counter-fraud, and financial crimes.
Trusteer’s cybersecurity protection offering helps identify and remove malware and fraudulent activity as well as protect endpoints, including smartphones and tablets.
Trusteer’s cloud-delivered security offerings will complement IBM’s Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions and will help IBM deliver accurate, real-time updates on malicious activities and the latest threats.
Following the transaction Trusteer will expand IBM security portfolio by adding Counter-Fraud and Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) Protection, Security as a Service Delivered through the Cloud, and will also help to Secure Mobile Transactions.
