Apple has reportedly hired former US Navy cryptology officer David Rice as its global security director, sources said.
He is expected to take charge in March and work on pushing the iPad maker more into the enterprise market.
The security expert has also served as a Global Network Vulnerability analyst for the National Security Agency, sources added.
Rice, whose current professional profile states that he is the executive director of cyber security firm Monterey Group, is also the author of "Geekonomics: The Real Cost of Insecure Software", a book that talks about how computer security vulnerabilities represent a genuine threat to the US infrastructure.
The book published in 2007 said that companies should be held accountable for the damage caused due to unpatched vulnerabilities.
Apple is yet to confirm the news of hiring Rice.
