IBM has launched a new Internet of things (IoT) developer community, enabling users to rapidly access materials offering guidance to create, manage and connect IoT devices to each other and the cloud.
The new community, IBM developerWorks Recipes, is designed to help novice and experienced developers alike, teaching them how to connect IoT devices to the cloud and how to use information coming from those linked devices.
It offers a series of tutorials, hosted on IBM’s Bluemix platform as a service (PaaS), for embedding analytics and machine learning capabilities into IoT devices and apps.
One tutorial shows how to understand data generated by automobile on-board diagnostic systems, which can be used to address vehicle performance issues.
Another tutorial offers instructions on connecting machines to IBM’s asset management system, which could be utilised to monitor a range of things like household appliances or railroad car wheels.
IBM also offers a set of tools to link IoT systems to its Bluemix platform, which could provide services like data storage, predictive modeling and geospatial analytics.
IBM general manager of offerings for Internet of Things Christopher O’Connor said: "With developerWorks Recipes, IBM provides easy access to new analytics and operational insight capabilities that tap into the vast data from many connected devices, home appliances or cars."
