Santa Monica, California-based Citizen America Corp has launched a Notebook Printer II colour printer driver for Apple Computer Inc Macintosh users. It weighs 2.6 lbs and Citizen claims it is the smallest and lightest portable printer on the market, offering laser-quality and colour-capable printing. Improvements to the 32-bit QuickDraw driver include greater performance with all leading software applications and hardware, including internal facsimile modems. The new driver, says Citizen, also demands significantly less memory, permitting faster full-colour printing with computers equipped with smaller memory configurations. The Notebook Printer II prints in 360 dots per inch. Typically, this level of resolution requires the ribbon to pass twice in order to cover the print space; the new driver only requires one ribbon pass and Citizen is making much of the lower consumables cost and enhanced print speed. Citizen adds that the driver is more intelligent and provides greater manageability of the printing process by enabling the print head to skip to the printing point without wasting the ribbon in the process. Current Notebook Printer II users can get a free upgrade. Citizen America is a subsidiary of Citizen Watch Co Ltd, manufacturer of watches and timepieces.
