Tenable Network Security, a provider of Unified Security Monitoring and creator of Nessus Vulnerability Scanner, has launched Tenable Appliance to expand the deployment options for its security and compliance management software and Nessus vulnerability scanner.

The appliance is a browser-managed application, which hosts various Tenable enterprise applications including Nessus, Security Center (SC), Log Correlation Engine (LCE) and Passive Vulnerability Scanner (PVS). It is available in two variants, a virtual machine (VM) download or as a physical hardware appliance.

The company said that the appliance provides a preinstalled image of all Tenable applications in one interface. It is currently available for Tenable customers and can be used with VMware Server, VMware Player and VMware ESX Server. It has functions such as backup and restore, software updates, shutdown/restart, updates, support functions and log analysis.

Ron Gula, CEO of Tenable, said: The experience of developing and deploying the Nessus Virtual Appliance early last year has provided us with valuable insight for the enterprise-level Tenable appliances. Thousands of our customers appreciated a 100% web based method to provision and manage their Nessus scanners.

We used the same approach for the Tenable virtual and hardware appliances which means customers already familiar with our virtual appliance can immediately make use of the same technology running on high speed hardware.
