Software engineering products and services supplier TeleSoft AB, San Diego has announced two Ada software packages, TeleAda-Link and TeleAda-Kit, designed to make embedded-systems development easier and cheaper. Aimed at code developed on Sun Microsystems or DEC VAX host computers targeting embedded Motorola 68000 family processors, the two products are intended to be used in conjunction with TeleSoft’s TeleGen2 Ada Development System: TeleAda-Link is claimed to provide fast downloading of code from host to target systems, while TeleAda-Kit provides a variety of networking, file-handling and interfacing features on bare, embedded target machines. TeleSoft claims that TeleAda-Link running over Ethernet enables a 1Mb program to be downloaded over Ethernet in less than a minute. For low-level operating system functions, TeleSoft has introduced TeleAda-Kit, which provides functions that are easily adaptable to different embedded hardware configurations. TeleAda-Kit includes TeleAda-Lan, TeleAda-File and TeleAda-IO. Based on the Arpanet TCP/IP standard, TeleAda-Lan provides networking facilities in the form of Ada package interfaces that can be used to build loosely-coupled distributed applications in Ada. TeleAda-File provides file-handling facilities such as copying, renaming, creating subdirectories and directory listings. It supports all predefined Ada input-output packages. TeleAda-IO is an interface for input-output drivers designed to improve program performance. Available immediately, TeleAda-Kit is priced between $8,000 and $64,600, depending on system configuration. TeleAda-Link, also available now, comes in at between $2,500 and $20,200. Volume discounts will be given on both.
