Synergy Media Inc says it will take on the likes of AT&T, MCI and Sprint by leveraging its experience in data internetworking to attack the intranet convergence market. Synergy claims it will offer businesses a stronger voice, video and intranet communications package, called Convergence Communication Network (CCN), drawing in products from its Synergy Communications and CSG Wireless subsidiaries. We understand the data paradigm better because we’re not just a telephone company, Synergy said. The company is taking the strategy-first-products-later route, and on July 1 will unveil kit but won’t ship until August or September. The Omaha, Nebraska-based firm admits its strategy is heavily dependent upon partnerships. Expect Synergy to announce alliances with two hardware vendors, one software house and a wireless communications company in the next two weeks. The firm will use proprietary data applications and offer intranet security and Internet commerce products. The CCN service will use ATM technologies and Wireless Metropolitan Area Network services to interconnect corporate intranet users to the eight national and two international supernodes it plans to have up and ready by year end. It’s already eyeing Europe, with key staff across the pond this week in discussions with potential European partners. Video conferencing kit will be bundled with Synergy’s offering, but the company wouldn’t say whose products it will use.
