An unnamed Asian cloud service provider selected Supermicro servers and Mellanox’s Virtual Protocol Interconnect (VPI) application to build large scale cloud applications.

Mellano is a supplier of high-performance, end-to-end interconnect applications for data centre servers and storage systems while Super Micro Computer provides customers around the world with application-optimised server, workstation, blade, storage and GPU systems.

The new 5,000-node based cloud cluster will utilise Mellanox’s 40GbE NICs and switches, and FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand adapter and switches to deliver enhanced cloud performance, flexibility and simplicity.

Mellanox Technologies Worldwide Sales vice president Marc Sultzbaugh said the new cloud cluster will provide computing capacity and storage on-demand, and will set the stage for the next generation cloud infrastructure based on Mellanox Virtual Protocol Interconnect technology.

"The cloud cluster will utilize Mellanox’s 40GbE and FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand adapters and switches, providing an optimal solution to accelerate a large-scale, multi-tenancy environment," said Sultzbaugh.
