Two companies that are much in need of new partners have decided to become bes’ friends and in an agreement that’s expected to lead to greater things Tektronix Inc will begin reselling Silicon Graphics Inc’s Origin servers and WebForce software running its own Digital Media Foundation broadcast and internet video server technologies. The two began a technology relationship around a year ago but have not resold each others’ products until now and plan to develop packaged solutions for the entertainment industries around both company’s product lines. To get some idea of how much the deal will contribute to its bottom line, SGI claims around 15% of its revenue – which was around $909m last quarter – is derived from sales of products to the entertainment industry and that shipments of its Origin kit dressed-up for video serving was the fastest growing part of that business.
