Prudential Corporate Pensions is to develop a new corporate pensions administration system, and has awarded the multi-million pound contract to DEC. The first phase of the contract is worth UKP3m, and it involves the creation of a management services division at Prudential’s Reading office which will be linked over a wide area network to seven regional offices. DEC is to supply a range of equipment including a VAX 6000, MicroVAX systems, workstations and personal computers. Apart from the hardware, DEC is also supplying a range of services accounting for 33% of the initial UKP3m. These include consultancy for systems planning and implementation, networking and cabling, the construction of the computer room at Reading, and maintenance and integration of new and existing equipment. Ap-plications will be built using the Oracle database and fourth generation language, and DEC says that it aims to have a new set of product administration systems scheduled to go live in 1992. The Prudential will extend the system with office automation and image processing functions in a later phase.
