Oracle has extended its enterprise storage offering with the introduction of new StorageTek T10000C tape drive, which provides performance, archive or backup offering.

The new storage offering incorporates the feature of both disk and tape, and delivers scalable and energy-efficient storage offerings for heterogeneous data protection, consolidation, archiving and cloud environments.

The StorageTek T10000C has capacity tape drive with a 5TB native capacity and 240MB/second native throughput and approximately 3x the capacity, and 50 to 70% faster than other tape drives.

In addition, the offering scales to 30x the capacity, and 50x the performance, while requiring 99% less power and cooling.

The company said that the offering include in-line encryption which provides data protection and is transparent to the application and has no performance degradation.

The new offering is integrated with Oracle Open Systems and Mainframe Environments.

This makes the new offering qualified with Oracle Secure Backup software, and with other backup software as part of a disk-to-disk-to-tape (D-D-T) architecture.

For mainframe environments, the StorageTek T10000C is supported by Oracle’s StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager, which provides the capability of policy-based management across Fibre Channel disk, SAS disk, fast access tape, and high capacity tape.

Oracle said that the new tape drive also runs with leading third-party operating systems, open systems storage management products and mainframe storage management software.
