Storage Technology Corp’s Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Network Systems Corp has launched the Enterprise Routing Switch, which combines local and wide area network packet switching and Asynchronous Transfer Mode cell switching in one system. Enterprise Routing Switch is based around two main features, Networks-on-Demand and NetSentry. The former enables the creation of logical networks, enabling workgroup members using the same software to share information and network resources, while NetSentry provides policy management, security and virtual networking capabilities. The company claims the product forwards data packets at over 500,000 packets per second and transmits cells at up to 3.25m cells per second across its redundant switch fabric. It also supports s peech, video and data transmission across traditional and Asynchronous Transfer Mode network infrastructures. The product comes in both five- and 16-slot versions and is available now but the company gave no prices.
