NCR Corp has broadened its relationship with thin client terminal maker Boundless Technologies Inc, and introduced two new products based on Boundless hardware. The NCR Models 2990 and 2992 Windows Terminals are rebadged from Boundless under the long term OEM deal between the two. NCR will use them as part of its total systems offerings for call centers, data warehousing, retail, financial and other sales.
The lower-end 2990 uses an Intel -compatible x86 chip running at 133MHz, with expandable RAM. The 2992 uses Cyrix Corp’s Media GX1 processor running at 180MHz and a DiskOnChip flash module, which Boundless says makes it the fastest in its class. Both run Microsoft Corp’s Windows CE and support Windows NT Terminal Server 4.0 through Microsoft RDP and Citrix ICA protocols.
Boundless struck up its first OEM deal with NCR in 1997 (CI No 3,253). But links between the two go back to 1994, when Boundless, under its original name of SunRiver Data Systems Inc, acquired NCR’s high volume ADDS terminal business (CI No 2,565).
