Memory Corp, the Edinburgh, UK-based internet appliance and data storage company, has formed a joint venture with enoughMusic.com, a digital music label and e-services company, to provide online content for Memory’s MP3 players. The new company, dig-music.com, will be 60% owned by Memory and 40% by San Jose, California-based enoughMusic.com. It plans to roll out sites in the US, England, Scotland, Holland and Scandinavia in the first quarter of next year.
By the middle of next year, Memory plans to launch its SoundCast machine, an MP3 player with easy-to-operate internet access so that users can download material from dig-music.com. SoundCast is likely to be marketed at about 200 pounds ($324). The deal also enables Memory to offer its hardware partners the infrastructure to develop their own branded sites using dig-music.com and enoughMusic.com content.
Memory Corp reports strong Christmas demand in the US market for its MP3-GO suite of products and the company aims to be a world leader in the enabling and delivery of new media content.
